St. Thomas

The best way to get to St. Thomas is by cruise liner.
St. Thomas is an English speaking island in the northeastern caribbean just east of Puerto Rico. It is a US territory and the capital of the US Virgin Islands. It offers snorkeling, SCUBA, swimming and some of the best shopping in the caribbean. Any thing you can find in the caribbean, you can find here.
We have cruised to this island 4 times, aboard the Carnival Lines Festival (twice), and Tropical, and aboard the Norwegian Lines Seaward.
On our first trip here we took a SCUBA lesson in Coki Point bay. Shelly had never dived before, and still can't swim, and was somewhat fearful, but she enjoyed every minute of it, as one of the pictures below shows. On our second trip there we did it again. Shelly still can't swim. On our third trip there, we caught a ferry over to St. John and went snorkeling at Trunk Bay, probably one of the worlds most photographed beaches. On our forth trip, we finally made it over to Megans' Bay, One of the prettiest beaches in the caribbean. On our fifth visit we went snorkeling with the turtles off the 40' sloop Marks Way. On all our trips we went shopping in Charlotte Amolle. They have a place there you can buy rum from all over the caribbean and you are allowed 4 quarts each duty free. (I get what I want and have yet to be charged duty on any of it. On the last trip we brought home twenty bottles and were not charged any duty. Just be honest about how much you have. The rum is a souvenir, not for drinking).
Some of the movie "Weekend at Bernie's II was filmed here.

St. John
St. John is an english speaking U. S. Virgin Island just east of St. Thomas and separates the US Virgins from the British Virgin Islands. The island is a natural preserve, although there are a few resorts on it. It offers snorkeling, and swimming.
We have been on this island once and went snorkeling in Trunk Bay. There is a snorkel trail laid out on the bottom to follow that has anchored plaques explaining the sights on the bottom and leads you on a nice adventure. This is where the underwater scenes for "Weekend at Bernie's II was filmed". There are also wild donkeys that come and beg food from the tourist. You are advised not to feed them though, because they are wild and they will bite and kick.
